What we already did

For over three decades the Alliance has been at the cutting edge of issues and developed the human and community capital to address health issues. Among the key achievements attributable to the Alliance are:

  • One-to one counseling to 250,000 seniors on the new Medicare benefit
  • First National Hispanic voice on HIV/AIDS
  • Su Familia National Hispanic Family Health Helpline (1000+ callers a month).
  • Latina health book written by and for Latinas (published by HarperCollins).
  • American Journal of Public Health, supplement on Hispanic health, Dec. 1990.
  • Inclusion of a Hispanic identifier on the national model death certificate.
  • Training manual and workbook on cultural proficiency.
  • Federal data guidelines include separate question on Hispanic ethnicity.
  • Guidance by the FDA for inclusion of ethnic data in drug clinical trials.
  • Web-based network devoted to Hispanic issues.
  • Minority Health Improvement Act of 1990.
  • OMB finding of “significant benefits” and Department of Justice opinion committed to LEP policy.
  • Agreements with over 100 university dean's offices and NIH
