OUR STORY

More Than 50 Years Advancing the Best Health for All

For more than five decades, the National Alliance for Hispanic Health has been a trusted voice dedicated to improving health and well-being across the United States.

Founded in Los Angeles in 1973 as the Coalition of Spanish-Speaking Mental Health Organizations (COSSMHO), the Alliance was created to respond to an urgent need for better mental health services. As the needs of communities evolved, so did we.

Today, the National Alliance for Hispanic Health is the nation's premier science-based and community-driven organization dedicated to achieving the best health for all.

Through our nationwide network, community-based members reach more than 15 million Hispanics each year, while our national organization members serve more than 100 million people annually. Together, we bridge science, healthcare, and community to improve lives every day.

OUR VISION

Strong, Healthy Communities

We envision communities whose contributions are recognized and valued—communities where every person has the opportunity to achieve health, well-being, and prosperity.

OUR MISSION

Best Health for All

Health is strongest when it brings together the best of science, culture, and community.

We work every day to make that vision a reality by:

  • Supporting science

  • Listening to individuals and communities.

  • Investing in leading community-based organizations.

  • Partnering with national organizations and experts.

  • Improving the resources and systems that shape health.

  • Designing practical solutions that make health part of everyday life.

  • Expanding access to high-quality care.

Our work is guided by independence and integrity. Consistent with our mission, we do not accept funding from tobacco, alcohol, or sugar-sweetened beverage companies.

OUR FOCUS

Prioritizing Impact

We connect research, healthcare, and communities so scientific advances lead to better health for everyone.

Our work is centered on three priorities:

  • Advancing research, services, and policy

  • Connecting scientific discovery with benefits for individuals

  • Bringing community services and medical practice together

HOW WE WORK

A Personalized Approach to Health

We believe that every person deserves care that reflects their individual needs throughout every stage of life.

That means:

  • Decisions informed by science, culture, and community.

  • Healthcare tailored to each individual.

  • People having the knowledge and tools to manage their health.

  • Physical and mental health addressed together.

  • Strong national partnerships connected to global health efforts.

  • Communities prepared to respond to public health emergencies.

Everything we accomplish is made possible through collaboration—with our members, partners, healthcare professionals, researchers, community leaders, and individuals working together toward one shared goal:
