Liver • MASLD
Liver disease affects millions of people in the United States and Puerto Rico, and the vast majority are undiagnosed.
The LIVERWISE: Healthy Liver, Healthy Life! Project strengthens the science base to increase awareness of and prevent MASLD (Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease) for all impacted by this condition.

50 million Americans are affected by MASLD, but more than 90% are undiagnosed.
-
MASLD is closely linked to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and excess weight, driving up the burden of chronic care management.
-
MASLD now affects 5-10% of all U.S. children, making it more prevalent than asthma. Hispanic children and teens with excess weight are at even higher risk.
LIVERWISE: Healthy Liver, Healthy Life!, is a first-of-its-kind program to expand and advance education, outreach, and public awareness related to liver disease, with a particular focus on MASLD (Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease). LIVERWISE supports effective, evidence-based, and evidence-informed clinical and community-level interventions.
The National Advisory Committee is Co-Chaired by Dr. Robert Lustig and Dr. Mauricio Lisker-Melman and includes four regional coordinating centers (RCSs) that provide the essential community-informed review and guidance to prevent, support early diagnosis, and manage treatment of MASLD. The RCS’s are:
