LIVERWISE · Liver & MASLD
Healthy liver, healthy life.
Liver disease affects millions of people in the United States and Puerto Rico, and the vast majority are undiagnosed. The LIVERWISE: Healthy Liver, Healthy Life! project strengthens the science base to increase awareness of and prevent MASLD — Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease — for all those affected.

Why It Matters
A condition most people never hear about.
Widespread, and hidden
Fifty million Americans are affected by MASLD, but more than 90% are undiagnosed.
Connected to other conditions
MASLD is closely linked to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and excess weight, driving up the burden of chronic care management.
It reaches children
MASLD now affects 5 to 10% of all U.S. children, making it more prevalent than asthma. Hispanic children and teens with excess weight are at even higher risk.
The Program
First of its kind.
LIVERWISE expands and advances education, outreach, and public awareness related to liver disease, with a particular focus on MASLD, and supports effective, evidence-based and evidence-informed clinical and community-level interventions.

The National Advisory Committee is co-chaired by Dr. Robert Lustig and Dr. Mauricio Lisker-Melman, and includes four regional coordinating sites that provide community-informed review and guidance to prevent, support early diagnosis of, and manage treatment of MASLD.
